Hubungan Kelekatan Orang Tua-Anak dengan Regulasi Emosi pada Remaja di Jakarta

Najwa Amellia, Yossie Susanti Eka Putri

Abstract

Instrumen yang digunakan mencakup Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment-Revised (IPPA-R) dan Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA).

Correlation Between Parent–Child Attachment and Emotion Regulation Among Adolescents in Jakarta

ABSTRACT

Parent–child attachment refers to the quality of the emotional bond developed through warm, responsive, and consistent interactions, which plays a crucial role in the development of adolescents’ emotional regulation abilities. Objective: This research aims to examine the correlation between parent–child attachment and emotion regulation among adolescents in Jakarta. Methods: This was an analytical cross-sectional research. The sample was selected using probability sampling through a cluster sampling technique, involving 428 adolescents aged 13–19 years from several secondary schools in Jakarta. Data were collected using the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment–Revised (IPPA-R) and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA). The survey was conducted between February and March 2025, and bivariate analysis was performed using Pearson correlation tests. Results: The average parent–child attachment score was 55.34. A total of 239 adolescents (55.8%) had high attachment levels, while 189 adolescents (44.2%) had low levels of attachment. The most dominant attachment dimension was trust (56.8%), followed by alienation (24.4%) and communication (18.8%). A significant negative correlation was found between parent–child attachment and emotion regulation (p = 0.036; r = –0.101). Discussion: High attachment levels do not automatically lead to better emotional regulation; rather, the imbalance among attachment dimensions—particularly high alienation and low communication—may hinder adolescents’ ability to regulate emotions adaptively. Conclusion: Nurses are encouraged to conduct emotional alienation screening among adolescents and develop family-based interventions focusing on enhancing communication and reducing alienation. Integration of attachment-focused content into school curricula and digital campaigns is recommended as part of adolescent mental health promotion efforts.
